Supreme Petfoods Sponsors Resident in Zoological Medicine

INDIANAPOLIS–Supreme Petfoods is sponsoring a veterinary residency within the Zoological Medicine service at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Laila Maftoum Procença, the first resident in the program, will spend three years working under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Divers and Dr. Joerg Mayer.

Divers and Mayer, both board-certified specialists in zoological medicine and faculty members at the university, worked with Gerald Becker, the North American sales manager for Supreme Petfoods, to create the position.

“Supreme is delighted to be sponsoring Dr. Laila Procença,” Becker said. “We are committed to supporting her throughout her duration at the university.”

The residency program emphasizes clinical training in the principles of zoological medicine and surgery, specifically in the discipline of exotic pet medicine, and is distributed across multiple species, including avian, mammal, reptile, amphibian, fish and invertebrates.
