Shopping and Style Website's Pet Project

Published:

Not all residents of New York City are lucky enough to live in a pet-friendly building, so shopping and style website Racked had been running a regular video feature called “Store Sidekicks” in which they “profile the fuzzy wuzzy creatures who inhabit shops around the city.” Recently, they were nice enough to put together a map of these shops—complete with pictures of the adorable animals—so you can plan your days off around visiting these store pets, if you should so desire.

While the map is made up of mostly dogs, there are some less-expected animals on there as well. Crest Hardware is the home of a pig named Franklin, who even has his own Facebook page; and according to the store’s Yelp listing, they also house a parrot. Not surprisingly, the store is located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. Women’s clothing store CONDOR in the Nolita neighborhood has an angora bunny named Merlin who brings a bit of magic to both the boutique and their Instagram account.

There’s something special about a store pet. They can bring add warmth to an otherwise neutral shopping experience and, when they have a real personality, they can even become a bit of a store mascot. I can’t remember the last time I walked into a store and stumbled upon a pet, but I can tell you that the next time I do it will probably make me more likely to return.
