Bentley's Closed More Stores than Originally Reported
While a number of media outlets reported that Bentley's Pet Stuff was closing six stores in Ohio and seven in Indiana, a letter that the company sent to vendors on March 8th indicated that it actually closed 17 locations, including three stores in Colorado, one store in Minnesota and one store in Missouri. All of the closings were scheduled to take place on March 11, according to the letter, which was apparently sent by Nicole Neal, Bentley's merchandising manager.
In the letter, Neal explained that the store closings were the result of ongoing litigation, combined with the chain's expansion into new markets, which has "collectively placed a strain on our resources," calling this "one of our lowest times in Bentley's history."
Below is a full list of the store closings cited in the letter:
Cherry Grove, OH
Western Village, OH
West Chester, OH
Lima Plaza, IN
Illinois Point, IN
Broad Ripple, IN
Columbine Knolls, CO
Arvada Ridge, CO
According to Neal, "These were newer markets that take so many resources to build. Resources that we do not have at this time."
UPDATE: Biddergy.com has announced that it will be conducting online liquidation auctions to sell all equipment and fixtures from Bentley's three closed Colorado locations, including freezers, store displays, racking, and more. The auctions will take place on March 21st, from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. According to Biddergy.com, additional auctions will be held next week for the Indiana and Ohio locations.
