Canine Companions for Independence to Host Dog Fashion Show

Canine Companions for Independence will present the sixth annual Haute Dog | LA doggie runway fashion show from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. on October 1st at The Skirball Cultural Center. Canine Companions for Independence is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly-trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships at no cost to the recipients.

Actor/producer David Arquette and his wife, journalist Christina Arquette, will join the fun at the Haute Dog | LA Howl-O-Ween Spooktacular. The Arquettes are huge dog lovers and their rescued basset hounds Dallas, Luna and Simone will walk the runway. People and their friendly pooches are also invited to strut their stuff and model outfits of their owners' choosing – costumes or couture are welcome. Haute dogs will receive dog treats and flavored water. Celebrity hair stylist Corey Powell of Benjamin Salon in West Hollywood will be on hand to fluff dogs up before they take to the runway.

Local clients with Canine Companions assistance dogs will be highlighted throughout the runway show. The event will also feature a cocktail hour, hors d’oeuvres, silent auction, shopping at vendor booths and internationally acclaimed animal communicator, Candi Cane Cooper, along with other activities for humans and canines. The Arquettes’ “Day of the Dead” collection will be on display, complementing Halloween décor by Fred Iberri of Tony Duquette.

Tickets are $95 for general admission, or $125 with a canine model participating. All proceeds from Haute Dog | LA will benefit Canine Companions for Independence. Thanks to the support of generous donors, Canine Companions provides assistance dogs completely free of charge to people in need. The dogs are trained in approximately 40 commands to help adults, children and veterans with disabilities accomplish everyday practical tasks. They open and close doors, retrieve dropped objects, activate light switches and provide immeasurable emotional benefits to their human partners.
