Diamond Opens California Facility

Diamond Pet Foods has opened a new manufacturing facility in Ripon, Calif. The facility is the company's fourth and the second in California.

"Because of the growing customer base, we recognized the need for another facility on the West Coast and had been working for a few years to find an existing facility that met our needs," said Mark Schell, vice president of manufacturing at Diamond Pet Foods. "Identifying the Ripon building allowed us to gain efficiencies from both [California] plants, not only from a proximity standpoint, but also through more sustainable production methods."

The Ripon plant is the first Diamond facility to incorporate significant energy-saving technology. It features an on-stage solar farm, along with solar panels on the building that provides 20 percent of the facility's power. LED light fixtures are also installed in the building, which allows the company to use at least 50-percent less energy.

The facility created more than 75 jobs for the community in manufacturing, quality control, administration and maintenance.
