The View from the Top

Become a pack leader at the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council's 2015 Top2Top Conference in April.

This is an exciting time in the pet care market, and Global Pet Expo has gathered all of the best and the brightest companies and business people the industry has to offer. As you walk around the show and see a huge variety of products, businesses and innovations, you might feel inspired to take your business to the next level and lead the pack.

That is why you need to attend this year’s Top2Top event at the picturesque Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., April 28-30. It will be an opportunity for pet industry executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials, journalists and advocates to come together, network and discuss a myriad of issues affecting the pet industry nationwide. The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) has secured some of the industry’s most successful business minds to speak about ways to increase your business’ bottom line and discuss the overall future of the pet industry; and there will be plenty of time for golf and to enjoy some great food and drinks.

For those considering attending this year’s conference, we’ve compiled some frequently asked questions about the event:

Who will be speaking at this year’s conference?

This year, Jim Myers, CEO of Petco, has graciously accepted the Top2Top keynote presentation. “I’m delighted to join leaders and colleagues from around the country to discuss the issues and trends currently influencing and affecting the pet industry,” says Myers. “Top2Top is always a great time to interact with others who are just as dedicated to the pets, pet parents and communities we serve every day.”

PIJAC believes that Myers will provide an edifying keynote address speaking on his experience as a successful businessman in the pet industry.

What if I’m a not a cat or dog person?

You are in luck, as this year’s conference isn’t just geared at dog and cat folks. The Top2Top Conference will have segments and speakers focusing on a variety of small mammal, reptile and avian issues. Attendees can expect speaker segments to provide a more in-depth analysis on PIJAC’s diverse member-base and important trends to be knowledgeable about.

What pet trends can I expect to be discussed at Top2Top this year?

Following the success of his presentation at last year’s conference, PIJAC has invited Nathan Richter, from Wakefield Research, back to speak at the 2015 event. Richter will be presenting on the business trends related to seniors and how to use these market trends to inform and influence your business. Richter’s Millennial research analysis provided insightful feedback at last year’s event, and PIJAC is convinced his research on seniors will be equally beneficial to a variety of attendees.

Will Top2Top talk about how to incorporate social media, technology and modern marketing trends into my business model?

Top2Top has the answer to modernizing your business in the pet industry. With online marketing strategies creating some of the biggest opportunities to reach new audiences, PIJAC will be presenting a session on the development of technology in the pet industry, and how companies can increase their sales using cutting-edge tactics. The shift into a more technology-focused marketing approach will prepare Top2Top attendees with some of the most modern marketing techniques and insights in consumer trends.

PIJAC has asked Brian Donahue to speak on “Digital Presence and Brand Representation.” Donahue is a veteran strategist who has developed communications and advertising campaigns for some of Washington’s leading political and advocacy organizations, and has helped elect members of Congress. He also executed campaigns affecting the top issues facing the business industry, among other private-sector clients. Donahue has presented media and digital strategy as part of numerous panels and campaign schools. He has been frequently featured in national news outlets, including the New York Times, The Washington Post, U.S. News and World Report, CNN, Roll Call, The Hill, National Journal, ClickZ and Politico. Campaigns & Elections magazine named him a Rising Star in 2006. PIJAC is convinced Donahue will add considerable insight and value to this year’s Top2Top agenda.

Is it really worth the trip to California?

With an overwhelming 92 percent of last year’s attendees saying they would recommend the Top2Top Conference to someone who has not attended in the past, one thing remains clear: This year’s Top2Top is shaping up to be another impeccable, dynamic industry event. With golf outings and resort amenities available for attendees, this conference will be the highlight of the pet industry.
