Pet Business: How is the market for pet grooming products and services? What is driving this performance?


Kevin Wahl: Pet owners are becoming more aware about the needs of a healthy pet. This begins in food and continues to transfer deeper into the grooming category.


PB: What are some of the key trends in both the professional and retail grooming tool categories?


Wahl: Consumers continue to look for no-hassle products. Wahl’s Professional ‘5 in 1’ Blade Cordless Clippers are the perfect fit. Now, with the addition of Lithium Ion technology, groomers get the benefit of more power, more run time and more charge cycles, making clipping easier than ever.



PB: What are the newest and most exciting developments from Wahl?


Wahl: Wahl’s new Professional 2-speed KM5 and KM10 clippers are game changers for the professional grooming category. The innovation of Consistent Speed Control ensures the clipper delivers the most power when going through the thickest of coats. This technology combined with the KM10’s brushless motor gives the groomer the most efficient clip. We have done this while making these units the most quiet, lightweight, and least vibration units we’ve launched in the category.



PB: How can pet specialty retailers drive more sales of home-grooming tools and supplies?


Wahl: With tablets and smartphones becoming more popular, consumers will continue to seek out more information about their pets and their needs. Pet retailers will need to continue to invest in educating their staff and maximizing their store layouts to earn the trust of pet owners.



PB: What does the future hold for Wahl, as well as for the professional and home-grooming segments?


Wahl: Wahl’s future is twofold. First, we will continue to work closer with retailers to give their shoppers the best experience in their stores. We will do this while offering the right promotions to drive products off the shelf. Secondly, we will continue to innovate and offer the products that the user demands to make their pet happy and healthy.
