New Show Gives Inside Look at Adoption Process
Forget gimmicky dating shows like The Bachelor or Love is Blind. An upcoming streaming series takes a different approach to matchmaking and provides an inside look into how an animal shelter works to pair canines with new families, giving them a second chance.
The Dog House: UK focuses on Wood Green, an animal rescue in rural England that helps find pups find their forever homes. Consisting of eight episodes, the show gives emotional insight into both the backstories of the canines up for adoption and the humans searching for a new animal companion. The series is set to feature a range of people looking to adopt a new pet, including couples, families and single individuals, as well as canines of all shapes and sizes.
The show also gives behind-the-scenes insight into the process Wood Green’s staff uses to match the dogs with potential families, which includes supervising first playdates between dogs and their potential pet parents in the rescue’s grassy recreation space. In these initial meetings, viewers can see whether it’s love at first sight for these pets and families.
In some ways, it’s no surprise Wood Green was chosen to be featured in the series. It is one of the United Kingdom’s largest pet charities and has been around for 95 years, according to the rescue’s website. It has two locations that host a variety of pets up for adoption, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens. Though the rescue has been closed to visitors amid the Covid-19 pandemic, it has recently begun adopting out animals once again.
The Dog House: UK will be available on streaming platform HBO Max starting July 23. To watch the trailer for the new show, click here.
