Dogs Get Their Day at Ralph Lauren Fashion Show
When it comes to fashion, fur is usually a hot-button issue for designers and animal rights groups, but Ralph Lauren found a way to make it work. The famous fashion company recently shot its first-ever dog accessories fashion show in collaboration with the ASPCA. The runway event featured 10 rescue dogs and models donning pieces from Ralph Lauren’s 2013 Accessories Collection.
The company used green-screen technology to create a cityscape reminiscent of Uptown Manhattan. Both the models and their furry friends are clad in brightly colored accessories that really pop against the monochromatic background. Lourdes Bravo, assistant director of adoption at the ASPCA, said that the pets were showered with affection and attention throughout the shoot.
The collection can be a bit pricey, topping out at $1,950 for a leather dog carrier, but there are lots of affordable and adorable options to choose from as well. My personal favorite is the dog raincoat, currently on sale for $66.50. If the prices are still a bit steep for some consumers, they can feel good knowing that 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of select accessories and dog apparel featured in the film will go to the ASPCA when purchased before November 15.
The video ends with a call to action to visit the section of the website dedicated to “The Dog Walk.” Here, not only can customers shop the items featured in the video, they can also see where the dogs wound up. There is also a link to the ASPCA website, so visitors can learn more about donating or adoption. (Warning: do not look at the “adoptable” sections of the ASPCA website unless you are prepared to fall in love. I seriously had to talk myself down from adopting Apollo.)
