Leaders of the Pack

The Pet Industry's Top2Top Conference will provide leaders in the pet world with insights on how to grow their businesses and advance the industry as a whole.

Each spring, the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) hosts the Pet Industry’s Top2Top Conference—an opportunity for executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials, journalists and advocates to come together, network, and discuss current and future issues affecting the pet industry nationwide and their own bottom lines. Next year’s Top2Top Conference will take place April 28-30, at the luxurious Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. There, attendees will gain insights into what it takes to lead the pack in business and in affecting public policy.

This year, Jim Myers, CEO of Petco, has graciously accepted the Top2Top keynote presentation. “I’m delighted to join leaders and colleagues from around the country to discuss the issues and trends currently influencing and affecting the pet industry,” says Myers. “Top2Top is always a great time to interact with others who are just as dedicated to the pets, pet parents and communities we serve every day.” Myers will provide a powerful keynote address informed by his experience as a successful businessman in the pet industry.

Additionally, PIJAC has successfully secured some of the industry’s most successful business minds to speak about ways to improve your bottom line and to discuss the overall future of the pet industry. PIJAC’s new president and CEO, Ed Sayres, will give the annual “State of the Industry” address. This will be a terrific opportunity to hear about what lies ahead for the industry as a whole and those who lead it. Historically, this speech has provided insight into the pet industry’s future, highlighting PIJAC’s best predictive analysis on market and legislative trends for the year.

Following the success of his presentation at last year’s Top2Top Conference, Nathan Richter from Wakefield Research will be back to speak about business trends and opportunities related to seniors, and how to use these market trends to inform and influence your business.

Focused on Innovation
How would you describe your company’s current digital presence? How do you leverage social media to reach new audiences? The shift to a more technology-focused marketing approach is not to be taken lightly; Top2Top attendees will hear from a leading digital strategist with some of the most cutting-edge marketing techniques and insights into consumer trends.

Innovations in traditional pet retail will also have a spotlight at this years’ Top2Top event. Modernization and technological advances in pet store layout and product design can lead to profitable transformations for business owners who take advantage of the information presented at this year’s Top2Top conference.

Worried that the Pet Industry’s Top2Top Conference has gone to the dogs? Think again. Speakers will address issues and opportunities in the aquatic, avian, reptile and small mammal sectors, and their broader impact on the industry as a whole.

Making Connections
Top2Top Conference attendees can expect multiple opportunities to network with some of the industry’s top leaders, both at after-hour events and between daytime sessions. This year’s conference will also host a golf tournament on Omni La Costa’s beautifully manicured lawns—the only Gold Medal golf course in California. Not a golfer? No problem. Beach games and relaxation are also on the agenda, or you can rest and reinvigorate at the number-one wellness spa in the country, according to Spa Magazine.

According to a post-event survey about the 2014 edition of the conference, more than 94 percent of attendees had their expectations met or exceeded. Additionally, 96 percent of respondents felt that the annual Top2Top Conference benefits the pet industry. This year’s event hopes to build on these prodigiously positive reviews to bring attendees even more valuable opportunities to network with top executives and acquire innovative analysis of pet market trends.
