Pet Valu Raises Record Donations

In 2017, Pet Valu raised more than $2.56 million, besting its previous corporate giving record. The company’s philanthropic efforts benefitted over 1,500 local animal rescues and advocacy groups, delivered thousands of meals to pets in need and helped over 3,500 homeless animals find new families through in-store adoptions.

“Pet Valu’s story is told on a community-by-community basis, and 2017 has been an exciting chapter for us to become a part of so many local towns as not just their go-to pet store, but also their dedicated partner in reaching animals who need us the most,” said Joe Dent, chief store operations officer for Pet Valu.

Supporting the company’s mission to help pets in their surrounding communities across the country, more than 370 Pet Valu stores across 13 states participated in 10 different fundraising events this year—including a month-long Thanksgiving collection drive, a celebration of Pet Appreciation Month in April and a summer fundraiser for the United States War Dogs Association.

As each of Pet Valu’s philanthropic events broke its own record, the combined proceeds resulted in a 34 percent increase in corporate giving over 2016. The company also raised money for hurricane relief efforts. “We collected more than half a million dollars in donations to aid rescues in Houston, Florida and Puerto Rico thanks to the unbelievable generosity of our customers,” said Dent.

On the heels of Pet Valu’s entrance into the Michigan market earlier this year, the company is planning additional stores in 2018 with its first-ever location in Massachusetts.

“With each new store is an opportunity for new partnerships with local animal welfare organizations,” said Dent. “As the Pet Valu family grows, so will our ability to change and better a lot of animals’ lives. We’re so grateful for the unwavering compassion of so many of our customers.”
