Petland Discounts Reportedly Closing Locations

Petland Discounts Inc. is reportedly closing stores in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, according to filings with the states’ labor departments.

According to multiple reports, the pet store chain filed a notice with the New York State Department of Labor that says the closures will see 367 people laid off. The layoffs are expected to take place on or around April 18, according to the filing.

The filing and similar notices in New Jersey and Connecticut follow news of the death of Neil Padron, who founded Petland Discounts in 1965. According to some reports, it isn’t clear if the closures mean the company is completely going out of business.

Its filing with New Jersey listed up to 30 layoffs at each of its 10 stores, while the Connecticut filing showed seven layoffs at two locations.
