Sparking Spooktacular Sales
In five short weeks, zombies, princesses and superheroes will hit the streets in search of something sweet—and children will not be the only dressed-up participants on the prowl for a satisfying snack this Halloween. Pets will join in the spooky celebration en masse, with an estimated 23 million people planning to dress their pets in costumes, according to the National Retailer Federation (NRF). Americans are expected to spend $350 million on pet costumes this year, according to the NRF’s Halloween Consumer Spending Survey.
Now is the time for pet retailers to get their Halloween merchandise and displays in order. Nearly half of Americans (43.3 percent) will start their Halloween shopping in the first two weeks of October, according to the NRF survey.
With that in mind, here’s a sampling of this year’s trending pet costumes, plus some rewarding treats for all those tricks pets are bound to perform.
