Given the unprecedented level of competition that pet stores face today, it has never been more vital to make sure that you are delivering the level of customer service that will keep shoppers coming back through your front door again and again. Luckily, there are six key opportunities that every pet specialty retailer has to wow pet owners with an exceptional in-store experience.
1. Know Your Customers
Having a clear understanding of how your customers shop and what they are buying will enable you to plan, buy, merchandise and market more effectively.
2. Make Loyalty Rewarding
Use your customer loyalty program(s) to reward shoppers with discount coupons and/or reward dollars to drive repeat visits and register rings. Also, don't forget to constantly analyze your program(s) for possible improvements.
3. Take Your Business Online
The internet has become an important resource for consumers to research product features and availability, so a well-crafted online presence is a necessity for pet stores. And since shoppers are increasingly doing this research on the go, making sure your website is mobile-friendly is vital.
Taking advantage of the latest mobile technology can help retailers improve their customer experience in a variety of ways, including putting important product and pet care information at your staff's fingertips, making the checkout more efficient and allowing storeowners and managers to spend more time on the sales floor.
5. Faster is Better at POS
Even if you deliver an excellent customer experience in every other aspect of your pet store, if there are delays at the checkout, that is what most shoppers will remember. With this in mind, make sure you are utilizing the latest technology to make your checkout as efficient as possible.
6. Sell From All Your Inventory
You never want a customer to leave the store without the merchandise they came in for, so make sure your inventory management system can help you quickly locate and procure out-of-stock and special-order products.
