PIJAC PetAlert: Massachusetts Groomers
May 18, 2009

Legislation regulating pet groomers has been introduced in Massachusetts. Almost identical legislation was proposed in 2007, but failed to become law. SB 186 defines a “pet groomer” as someone who “is licensed as a bather/brusher, all-breed basic groomer or all-breed master/teacher groomer engaged in the practice of pet grooming, who bathes, brushes, clips or styles a pet for financial remuneration.” The bill creates a Board of Registration of Pet Groomers which would be responsible for setting standards and otherwise regulating pet groomers in the state, and is specifically applicable to dogs and cats.

SB 186 set to be heard before the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure on Tuesday, May 19th in Room B-1 at 10:00 a.m.
