WASHINGTON, D.C.–The Pet Industry Joint Advisory council has announced additional speakers for the Pet Industry’s Top to Top Conference, which will be held May 3–4 in La Jolla, Calif. The conference will kick of with the State of the Industry & Town Hall Meeting: an open forum discussion hosted by Robert Moran, president and CEO of PetSmart; Bob Shipley, president & CEO of the Hartz Mountain Corporation; and Peter Weinstein, executive director for the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association. Bard Weston, EVP and chief merchandising officer at Pecto will host the Changing Retail Channels: Are You Poised to Profit? panel discussion. The Future Forces That Will Change the Pet Industry session, hosted by Bob Johansen, past president for the Institute for the Future, will map out future trends and their impact on the pet industry. Dr. Bernard E. Rollin, a professor at Colorado State University, will discuss the humane movement and the pet industry in The Humane Movement and the Pet Industry: Can the Two Live In the Same Dog House?
A luncheon featuring Wesley J. Smith, author of A Rat is a Pig a Dog is a Boy is also planned. The conference will also feature retailer, manufacturer, distributor networking meetings for industry executives.
Political consultants and comentators James Carville and Mary Matalin will give the keynote address.
