A familiar face popped up on a local news channel here in the New York area with some consumer-friendly advice on flea-season preparations, dog treats and doggie burritos—watch the clip for more on that. The segment, featuring celebrity groomer and Forever Stainless Steel spokesman Jorge Bendersky, was entertaining, but it was also a nice plug for pet specialty retailers, if only inadvertently.
His main point was that now is a good time to treat your pooch to a nice flea bath, a longer-acting flea-and-tick treatment and some healthful treats—apparently, even pets are worried about having bikini-ready bodies. So while the segment was fun and a bit silly, it served as a reminder to pet owners that now would be a good time to drop into the local pet retailer to stock up on a few Spring supplies.
Perhaps, retailers will also want to play this up a bit with window displays, and in-store merchandising and signage to nudge customers in the right direction. An endcap stocked with items such as pet water bottles or collapsible bowls for trips to the park, flea and tick treatments, outdoor-oriented toys, and some fashion-forward newly introduced leashes and collars may do the trick.
