The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) presented its first annual PIJAC Awards at the Top2Top Conference in Napa, Calif., in April. The awards honored leaders nationwide for their contributions to foster the pet industry.
"We are pleased to honor the work of these committed, talented individuals whose groundbreaking efforts have a direct impact on the entire pet industry," said Mike Canning, PIJAC's president and CEO.
The winners are:
• Bob Ashley and Brian Potter won the Pet Advocates of the Year award. Ashley, of ECO Publishing, and Potter, of Chicago Reptile House, operate the North American Reptile Breeders Conference.
• Jim Boschee, of the World Pet Association Board, won the PIJAC Ambassador of the Year award. As the WPA representative on the PIJAC Board of Directors, Boschee has continued to forger a closer bond between the organizations.
• Jim Heim, of Central Garden & Pet, was given the Lifetime Achievement Award. Heim served on the PIJAC Board of Directors for seven years and as chairman for four years. As chairman, he was instrumental in helping PIJAC reorganize to be a more effective force in the industry.
