The Kong Company set a world record for most dog toys stuffed in one hour last month in New York City. Sixty volunteers from area pet shelters, rescue groups and animal care organizations joined the Kong team to complete the attempt.
A total of 1,975 Kong classic toys were stuffed with Kong's Easy Treat and Snacks to set the record, which was officially documented by Guinness Book of Word Records officials.
Volunteers from Mayor's Alliance for NY Animals, Humane Society of NY, Bideawee Animal Shelter, Animal Care & Control of New York, Puppies Behind Bars, Sean Casey Animal Rescue and Best Friends NY were able to take a portion of the stuffed toys to their home shelter/rescue for the dogs. Animal Care & Control, which cares for the largest number of dogs in the city, took the bulk of the toys in varied sizes.
The idea for the record was founded on the proven benefits of stuffing a Kong toy, especially for dogs confined to shelters, according to the company. Stuffed Kong toys can extend the joy of treat time and are mentally and physically stimulating for any dog. As the dog works to release the stuffed treats, they are moving and thinking, and once the treats are released, the Kong toy becomes a vehicle for fulfilling the instinct to chew.
The company is challenging other groups to break this record for the benefit of pets everywhere. For information and assistance on setting up an attempt, email KONGconnect@KONGcompany.com.
