In our youth-obsessed world, it is striking when someone takes the time to shine a light on the beauty, grace and wisdom that can come with old age. Photographer Garry Gross does exactly this—with dogs—in the new book Beautiful Old Dogs, A Loving Tribute to Our Senior Best Friends.
The book, edited by writer David Tabatsky, features a collection of stunning color photos of old dogs, as well as articles ranging from tear-jerking to funny, penned by writers such as Dean Koontz, Anna Quindlen, Doris Day and Marlo Thomas. The foreword is written by celebrity dog trainer Victoria Stilwell, the host of Animal Planet’s It’s Me or the Dog.
The book also includes a listing of practical resources geared toward caring for senior dogs.
Sadly, Gross died in November 2010. But fortunately for dog lovers, his work lives on, and the book is worthy of a spot on pet specialty retailers’ book displays.
Besides, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month.
