ökocat Donates Thousands of Pounds of Litter

ökocat donated over 3,000 lbs. of its natural cat litter to shelters during the first ökocause4paws Litter Donation Program this summer.

The shelters that were selected to receive the donations are Animal Aid in Portland, Ore., Rocky Mountain Feline in Denver and Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue in San Francisco.

“We asked our loyal customers to help us give back to shelters by voting for their favorite eco-friendly city during our first ökocause4paws Litter Donation Program,” said Leslie Ellis, communications manager at ökocat. “Helping the organizations that make cat adoption possible is something we feel passionate about, and giving our customers a way to help us choose three of their favorite green cities, helped us narrow down our selection.”

The shelters each received over 1,000 lbs. of ökocat’s natural, odor-reducing litter that will be used for the cats who come through the shelter. As part of the donation, ökocat will also provide a coupon for a free box of litter to each person who adopts a cat at the shelters through the end of 2018.

"We're beyond grateful to ökocat for their generous donation to Animal Aid through their ökocause4paws program,” said Paige España, director of operations at Animal Aid. “As a small, nonprofit rescue, donations like this make a world of difference to our shelter. Plus, we're all about using litter that's great for our adoptable cats and great for the environment, so ökocat cat litter really is the purrfect match!"

To kick off the 2018 ökocause4paws Litter Donation Program in June, ökocat also donated over 1,000 lbs. of litter to PAWS in Lynwood, Wash. and sponsored the adoption fees at an event, which resulted in 22 cats and kittens finding their forever homes.

“The ökocause4paws program has allowed us to donate over 4,000 lbs. of our litter in 2018 to shelters in need, and we’re looking forward to donating even more as the program continues next year,” said Ellis. “Our goal is to change the world one litter box and one cat adoption at a time, and our customers are helping us make that possible!”
